  J-dub elders throwing a wrench in funeral services for my nephew

  as i said in my earlier post, my nephew took his own life yesterday evening.

  my sister is a die-hard jw and this religion is her comfort more than ever right now, so she accepts everything they throw at her.

  the elders will meet this evening and decide whether they will allow a memorial service at the kh.

  What makes this worse to me is that you are being subject to the local Elders interpetation of Watchtower rules

  In my area two young JW's in the past six yrs have committed suicide . One had a memorial service at a funeral home with an Elder as the speaker . The other had a Kingdom Hall memorial with two Elders giving the service . In both cases it was stated the deceased was clearly depressed and took their life out of desperation, and that we must realize they had an illness . Witness family connection also played a part I am sure . The first family had no other witness relatives .The second one had half the congregation related to him and many of the servants were relation .

  I hope your nephew gets a respectful service no matter where it is held . My sympathy goes out to you and his family . It is so difficult when someone dies this way ,and you are left wishing you could have done something for them .

  I told my daughter I was leaving "the truth" this weekend.

  last week, i told you i was going to tell my daughter that i was leaving the truth this weekend and you all gave me sound advice.

  but, i cannot keep a secret this heavy from the person i love most on this earth, my only daughter, who is beautiful inside and out.. well, i have always had an open and honest relationship with my daughter, and i guess it paid off.

  this weekend i visited my daughter (who lives in another state) and i told her i was leaving "the truth.

  Saw my JW father the other day

  i'm still a bit torn on the issue of associating with my parents.

  they have made absolutely no effort to keep in touch and usually any contact results in a generic witness email reply.. i have been at the point that i really don't need or care for their influence in my life for a while but i keep flipping back and forth between cutting off all contact and being the bigger person and at least give them updates.. so, in light of their recent aniversary, i went to the store and tried to pick them out a card.

  i never really realized how difficult that is if you're looking for a card to actually mean what you say.. unfortunately i didn't find a card that said "sorry you two are trapped in a loveless marriage and i could really care less about your opinions" so i settled for the least bit sappy i could find.. i put the kid's school pictures in and while out running errands dropped it off.

  been very self absorbed for awhilel....shame on me!!

  but i called that crazy canadian chick the other day....god i love her voice and personality...and if you ever get to call or see mouthy...go for it!!!

  GLT you are probably right . I think the only ones that will truly appreciate this will be ex-jws, and a few active ones that are waking up .

  It brought back some sickening feelings for me .

  Excellant movie . It captures the emotional turmoil perfectly !

  I think the mall scene where she sees her Df'd brother was the most gut wrenching for me .

  It brought back so many memories growing up and being paranoid about someone seeing you doing something 'wrong'.

  I hope this movie gets exposure here in the USA .....I think many would benefit seeing it .....

  Who Was Your Favorite Speaker?

  no brag, just fact---i was the most requested speaker in my hall(s), i was often requested to give talks in kh's all over the place, not just in my area.. i personally enjoyed speakers who taught you something, not merely recited something.

  we had a district overseer, paul illingsworth, i loved his style.

  he delved into bible words of the original greek and hebrew.

  Jules Purvis . He was from Peoria ,IL area and always gave talks at our Circuit and District assemblies .I think he was a photographer . Just liked the sound of his voice .

  Did you play tackle football as a good little JW?

  in my town we did.

  each congregation had its own "pick up" team.

  we would get together and play on a chosen sunday after the meetings.

  Same in our hall . The boys tried to play flag ,but tackle always ended up winning out . Over the yrs sports loving youths turned into Elders ,and they turned a blind eye to the violence most of the time....... until someones wife complained .

  My husband played for way to long until he separated his collarbone . In a sling for six weeks and pain for along time cured him of contact sports . Now he is an official for High School football . He gets to enjoy the game w/o as much pain . As he just turned fifty he is starting to have knee pain after running the field all night ,and this yr one of the ref's got bulldozed by a player ,but for the most part still safer than a Sunday afternoon game with the JWs.

  The Witnesses in this area have met at the local ski resort for YEARS on Christmas Day . We took our kids a few times .....they literally take over the place . I feel very sorry for other families on vacation there for the day .

  I know we had talks about not missing the meeting to attend this gathering (when Christmas fell on a Thursday or Sunday ). Certain CO's tried unsucessfully to derail the party too ,but the local fa,ilies like their Christmas tradtions ! heheh
